What We Believe About Worship
Worship is our personal and gathered response to God, in spirit and in truth, for who He is and what He has done. It is expressed by what we say, what we sing, and most of all, the way we live. The worship ministry at FBC focuses mainly on singing and playing instruments. However, we do not believe that playing and singing praise to God in a church service encompasses all that is worship.
That being said, singing praise to God is a command to all (Psalm 66:1-2) and is a powerful way to respond to our God. It connects the truth of Scripture with the emotion of our hearts. It helps us remember deep truths about God as we go through our week. Because of this, the words we sing are extremely important to us. We carefully select songs that accurately reflect and draw from the Word of God. If we have any question about the Biblical accuracy of a song lyric, we will not sing it. We want everything we say and do in our gathered times of worship to declare the truth of Jesus Christ and His gospel, and to lift Him up as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Worship is not ultimately about what we want, need, desire, or prefer. Worshiping God is the end in itself. We were designed to worship Him and to enjoy Him forever. God is our joy and satisfaction. He is ultimately worthy of all worship, all honor, all praise, and all glory. He is worthy of our lives!
